Giving this book a 3 is me being kind. There are plenty of moments (not enough) when I couldn’t put the book down. The last 10-20 chapters of the book kept me on the edge with the Adrian-Laurel-Sam predicament. The chapter when Laurel has a talk with Sam’s mother at the restaurant was a highlight in the book because it provides some insight on what Sam’s possible punishment would be if he continues to see Laurel. Reading and visualizing Sam and Laurel being together was a magical moment for me. Yet, I’m still tired of their “we can’t or shouldn’t be together†conversations. What I don’t like. The reason I really want to give this book a 2 is it’s repetitiveness. I felt the author did this to lengthen the book, but it wasn’t necessary. This book would have been fine it were 100 pages less. Laurel is hard headed and doesn’t seem to care about her own safety, or the fact that demigods are risking their lives for her. They’re constantly getting into predicaments because of something she has done, all the while she keeps telling them she doesn’t want them getting into trouble over her. Laurel is weak and easily persuaded. I had to remind myself that Laurel is 19 not 15, although her dialogues was often 15ish, repetitive and unnecessary.Just when you think some big revelation is about to come, it falls short only to have the person speaking lose focus on what they were about to say, or have them say something basic like “I’m in love with a Titanâ€.The age thing. The you’re immortal (Sam) and won’t age and I (Laurel) will age. Sounds familiar. I’m thinking Twilight familiar. Especially when it comes to Laurel’s possible pregnancy that could kill her. I can almost guarantee that Laurel will some how became immortal to save her life after the birth of her and Sam’s child. Again, Twilight.
I did not think anything could top the first book in the series, but I’m constantly on the edge and reading into the wee hours of the morning. Unfortunately, Sam and Laurel repeatedly hurt one another while trying to save the other. Trust and hearts are broken alike due to poor communication and ego. Desperate with no other alternative, Sam risks his life by crossing over to dangerous territory in order to protect what belongs to him. The Keepers are furious without the knowledge of Laurel’s whereabouts to the degree that her family’s lives are at stake.Olympians and Titans become allies in this craftily written tale. Enemies that have sworn to slay one another have forged a truce in order to thwart Apollon’s vision of The Chosen One bearing a demigod. Truths and lies are brought to light causing some of the Olympians to question their loyalty to Zeus.Laurel has me pulling at my hair and seriously frustrated by her decision making. Will Sam and Laurel’s love protect her from Adrian’s allure or will she succumb to the inevitable fate that awaits her? The author goes to great lengths in order for the reader to fully grasp The Chosen One’s character and personality. Now that Sam and Laurel have cemented their relationship on her 19th birthday, it makes me wonder if Sam has been lied to in regards to procreation. Romance between Olympians and Titans have blown me away. Is there a possibility of peace after all? I’m estatic and sad that this series will soon come to an end. I look forward to the finale.
This was a good follow-up to the first book but there were a lot of plot holes so large you could have driven a semi truck through them. Plus there were a lot of language / grammar mistakes throughout the book. Things that look like spell check was trying to figure out what was meant and put in a totally random word. Names were misspelled. Words were missing altogether...I don't know if this was a problem with the author providing a bad file or if the editing was just not done well but it really made me stop and re-read sentences numerous times trying to figure out what was meant. The story continues to be interesting and heart-breaking. Although it didn't have a lot to do with advancing the plot forward, the time that Sam spends in Montana gives us additional insight into how he is feeling rather than seeing most of the story through Laurel's eyes. Her time on Delos though was really strange; almost nothing that happened there matched up with what we were told about the place. Frustrating! I'm still very hooked on the characters though and am really looking forward to reading the final book.
I gave this one 4 stars. The first book was better. At first I was hoping that Laurel would become closer with Sander, like she was with Sam. Then as the book progressed I had high hopes that Phaedra was right about Adrian. I hoped that she would realize he wasn’t as bad a person as everyone was telling her. So to see the outcome was a little disappointing. There was never even a chance of them becoming intimate at all. I had hoped that she would have at least given him the slightest chance of a romance. A girl can dream! I liked the first book more because there was more of a chase and the fact that Sam was so jealous that Adrian was supposed to be the one Laurel ended up with. It made it harder to put the book down. This book on the other hand, I kept putting it down over and over out of aggravation. Anyways, I was disappointed about the ending. I have high hopes that the next book will be better.
OMG, this book was amazing. The well depicted, well thought out characters, role, emotions, relationships is AMAZING. I cannot get enough of the characters. I love this book. I love how ever detail was well put together. The heroine Laurel is so smart and never played the hopeless damsel in distress; she was strong minded and hand spunk with beauty. I loved her, her problems were realistic for her age and reasoning. Most of her decisions I prob would have done myself. The hero Sampson was admirable, strong, handsome, smart, cunning, atheletic, a jack of all trades, and powerful. I loved him to pieces. I loved every character, the drama, the suspense, some of the decisions made I was furious with but then it made sense through at the story and at the end. I can't get enough of this book. I can't wait for the next one. This was a well thought out well played story line.
