This book is great for those new to the E-Type who want to get a good grounding on the various models and different things to look for. It's fairly high level, but provides a good introduction. For those who really want detail, the collectors originality guide is probably a better bet. I purchased both.
This gets you in the game of understanding the E type but that's about it. If you really want to get into it there are other, better books. This is OK for what it is, a short relatively inexpensive way to learn about the "E".
I was expecting more detail. Although it did have some information on the E type that I was seeking, much of the book was about basic car buying techniques.
If you like 'E' types or really want one, start here.
The Buyer's Guide to Jaguar E-type was a little disappointing due to the small size of the book. The text was OK, but the pictures was really bad. Too small and didn't really showed what the text told. The bound of the book could have been a bit softer too.
This was very informative when I was buying my car. I know Peter personally, and found his writing here invaluable.
Buying a classic car is always fraught with pitfalls for the unwary and never more so than in the case of the Jaguar E Type.This book is an excellent fast guide for the unititiated as to how to quickly assess the condition and approximate value of an E Type. To get to the same outcome without the information in this guide would require many, many hours of personal research.The information in this book could save you many thousands of dollars in unforeseen repair costs. Worth every cent of its price!
While a book of this length cannot possibly insert all the important photos the ones that are referenced are not clear. Perhaps they've been cropped from larger photos but many do not show what the text refers to. Having said that there are other more comprehensive books out there for photos. Jaguar E-Type 6 and 12 Cylinder Restoration Guide by Thomas Haddock is just this kind of bible. Overall a great small book to point one in the right direction prior to a second step of having a pro inspect.Rob
