My kids love the "Good Night" series. We have them from places we've lived, places our relatives live and places we've visited (or hope to). We also have more general ones like "Goodnight Beach" and "Goodnight Ocean". They, for the most part, are wonderful books. Unfortunately, "Goodnight Colorado" is not up to the standard of the other books. The thing about the series is that each book can have a different author and a different illustrator. Most of the books, regardless of who illustrates it, have a red balloon somewhere in the book. It's a nod to "Goodnight Moon". There is no red balloon in this book. I kind of feel like it is the publishers way of saying, "we're sorry, we had to put a book out on Colorado and this is the best we could do but it's not really part of the series."Where to start: First, the illustrations (as others have said) are poor. Very poor. Nothing even remotely interesting to the kid or the parent. In the other books in this series (except for the equally bad "Goodnight Arizona"), the pictures are full of things to talk about with the kids. Part of the appeal of these books is the words are simple but that there are so many things to talk about in the pictures. In this book, that aspect does not exist. The pictures are basic and boring and include nothing to talk about Many of them are just plain ugly.Secondly, I'm not sure who wrote this book but they don't seem to know much about Colorado. One page says, "Jump high, snowboarders in fabulous Aspen!" Aspen in known for many things. Snowboarding is not one of them. They were the long hold out that didn't even allow snowboarding. Maybe Copper Mountain, or Breckenridge, for snowboarding. Or, even better, just combine it with skiing since the two go hand-in-hand and there is already a page (Vail) devoted to skiing. And, speaking of Breckenridge, the page on that town looks like the illustrator took a postcard of Main Street, deleted everything of interest, and then redrew it. Why bother? There is not a single columbine flower in the entire book. The columbine is everywhere in Colorado. Everywhere. What book on Colorado has no columbine? It's like having a book about Arizona with no saguaros.Thirdly, another reviewer mentioned this, but it is basically a primer on the tourist destinations. Many interesting things about Colorado are missing but the top five resorts (Aspen, Vail, Telluride, Breckenridge and Steamboat Springs) are all represented - four of those showing winter scenes. Apparently, there is nothing to do in Colorado in the summer other than go to the top of Pikes Peak on the cog railway. (one of the worst pictures in the book - a red cog train, 2 ugly marmots and the ugliest mountains you could imagine - who would want to visit Pikes Peak after that?)I do not recommend this book. It's been on our night time bookshelf since it arrived over a year ago and it's been read one time. We have relatives in Colorado and many friends there but my kids want nothing to do with this book and neither do I. The other books in this series are really excellent but I will be paying attention in the future and making sure I don't buy any more books in the series by this illustrator.
Cute book and my two year old really enjoys it. My one complaint about the book was that I felt like it left out some really good parts of Colorado. I didn't see any mention of Estes Park, Fort Collins, the Garden of the Gods, Etc. In fact I've lived in Colorado for 20 years and I've never heard of quite a few of the places in the book.
gift for my nephew who was born in Colorado but has moved back to be closer to family. Great board book that visits all the great sights and places of Colorado.

We moved to CO from CA when my son was 3 months old and his Aunty gave him this book. Since then I have bought Good Night CA, HI, NY and my son loves them all. I have also given these books as gifts to friends who are moving and their kiddos loved them, too.
Bought it as a gift and it was darling.
