I love the layout of this guide.It's easy to follow and suggested OG problems after each chapter reinforces you on the corresponding topic.The chapters are structured so that each lesson reinforces your sentence correction process and builds on top of your skill.After finishing the book, I can immediately recognize the question type, what the question is asking for, and error spits. It helped me solidify my understanding of sentence correction.I would say it's more detailed and easier to understand than Manhattan GMAT's sentence correction book.On the other hand, the guide is full of errors.It got to the point that I couldn't trust the answer and explanations. One of the practice question answers was actually wrong. Even though the explanation listed the correct answer, it really startled me for a second and shook my confidence. Some of the errors are too obvious that I wonder if an editor reviewed the book at all.I checked the publisher's website, but no errata has been posted. There's one-page errata amending the book, but I'm not even sure what that's for.Also, in one reference to OG question the author says an incorrect answer is correct, contradicting OG question answer. It was about parallelism. The author blindly applies parallelism to fit her chapter topic and says 'you can quickly eliminate wrong answer choices and get to the correct answer'.This is dangerous advice: you should NEVER apply grammar rules without thinking about the intended meaning. It's a quick way to fall for the trap in 650~700 level questions.I really wish there was a separate chapter for the meaning since 700+ questions rely heavily on subtle meaning differences.Overall, I would recommend this book, but with a caution. It's a great guide for reviewing, but watch out for the errors.

This sentence correction guide has been great so far. It is clear, concise, and full of useful examples to help polish your grammar and diction to help dominate the GMAT SC questions. I have used this and the Manhattan GMAT SC guide and I like this one a bit more (although the other is good too). The section at the end with over 100 practice questions is great. Each question is broken down with explanations for why answer choices are incorrect and why others are correct. Fantastic way to end the guide. Highly recommend picking this up.

I bought this book from Amazon India. I'm not a native English speaker and I found this book incredibly helpful. Never thought I could do so well in the SC section. The language and explanations are so clear. This is probably the best book for GMAT sentence correction!

Despite the fact that this book was published in early September, no one has written a review yet, so when I got my hands on a copy, I made sure to check it out, because I also consider myself an expert in this portion of the GMAT (Last time I took the test, I answered 100% of the Sentence Correction questions correctly).First of all, it is important to remember that nearly any third-party guide to GMAT has one main weakness: it does not include any real GMAT questions. I repeat: THIS BOOK DOES NOT CONTAIN ANY REAL GMAT QUESTIONS. Thus, Meltzer has wisely referenced similar questions from the 2017 Official Guide to the GMAT at the end of each chapter, so that we can try applying our newly-learned Sentence Correction skills to actual test questions.GMAT informational and strategy books such as this certainly still have their place in the preparation process, but there is nothing quite as helpful as practicing with real GMAT questions. It should also be noted that the exercises are not multiple-choice questions like those on the GMAT, but simply incorrect sentences that require correction by hand.For the most part, the advice within is very solid. Occasionally, she offers questionable GMAT test-taking advice, like putting your finger on the screen while you read (neither practical nor helpful in my opinion—I would suggest “lip synching” the words instead), but overall, Meltzer shows a deep understanding of grammar and usage on the GMAT. For example, did you know that on the GMAT, “a number” is considered to be plural, and “the number” is considered to be singular? Plenty of helpful tidbits like those are scattered throughout the text.In this updated edition, Ms. Meltzer has included more strategic advice about navigating the GMAT Sentence Corrections in a general sense, including the tendency of the GMAT to mix multiple grammatical issues into one sentence, how to prioritize certain types of errors over others when eliminating answer choices, and understanding that it’s OK for the correct answer to be less than perfect.Overall, this book will enhance your collection of GMAT verbal resources, especially if the Sentence Correction portion is one of your weaknesses. It’s only offered in a print version, so Kindle users are out of luck for now.

2nd book in Hunger Games series and it was just as good as expected. I wouldnt recommend reading it though unless you have read the first one as I don't think book is a stand alone book. Best to be read in order I think.

Before reading The Hunger Games trilogy, I had more than a few people tell me the first two books were good, but the last one was lacking. I couldn't disagree more. The story is harsh, gruesome, and bleak. It had to be. It's a first person account of an individual who has survived two Hunger Games and plays a major role in a revolution. Of course it's going to be brutal. Had the story drawn to a close with Katniss standing majestically with trumpets blaring and flags waving, it would have been completely unrealistic.I also heard a few people express disappointment in the conclusion of the Katniss/Peeta storyline. I've read people's reviews taking issue with how Katniss and Peeta are represented at the end of Mockingjay, asking "Where's the passion?" Passion? Are they insane? First of all, the story is told in first person by a character who is admittedly not at all comfortable being demonstrative and doesn't respond well to those who are. There was never going to be a hearts/candy/flowers declaration happening here. Peeta has a borderline obssessive love for Katniss throughout most of the trilogy. The way I read the story, by the end of the first Hunger Games, she returns the feeling. Though hesitant to think why she does the things she does, or to state it aloud, she expresses it in so many different ways throughout the remainder of the trilogy, there really is no doubt. Despite the fact that she is suffering major PTSD, she agrees to take on the stress of being the symbol of revolution and take a front line role to bring him back. Regardless of the amount of trauma they both endure, they still eventually turn back to each other. Gale was a strong character, but he had not gone through what Katniss did in the arena and would never have been able to understand that part of her. The time she spends clinging to him and avoiding Peeta is essentially an attempt to return to the person she was before the games (which was never going to happen). Peeta was the walking, living, breathing reminder of the trauma endured. I thought it telling that Peeta returned to Region 12. Like Gale, he could have gone anywhere when it was all over, yet he went where Katniss was. Really, Katniss, Peeta and Haymitch needed each other to become human again (or as human as they were ever going to be). Katniss reminded me of uncles I had who, when they returned from war, sat in a darkened room, staring at a wall day after day for over a year before they could handle being amongst the living again.I'll admit part of me would have liked President Snow's demise to be more than it was. Considering the amount of suffering he caused, part of me is bloodthirsty enough to have wanted him to suffer a great deal more. There are also characters I would have liked to survive (Finnick, Cinna, and Prim to name a few), but their deaths helped to illustrate the randomness and unfairness of death in wartime.There are parts of this story we'll never get to see because it is told from Katniss' point of view. We see only what she sees and know only what she thinks is going on. I, for one, would be interested in knowing more about events of the story from Peeta and/or Haymitch's point of view. Peeta's fight back from his memory hijacking would be an intriguing read.Ultimately, I found this book engaging, infuriating, exhausting, and funny all at the same time. To have had Katniss serene and sweetly declaring life to be sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows would have been absurd. She is with a husband (partner?) whom she loves and is utterly devoted to. She has two children she loves, but is worried what they will think when they know the role their parents played in the past. She and Peeta are happy, but remain somewhat haunted which is perfectly realistic for what the characters have gone through.

If a book is trending and seems interesting, I will add it to my “to read” list. This is how I first started reading Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games. After finishing Mockingjay, I was blown away. All I could think was, how many of the YA readers will understand the nuances of Collins’ message?She hooked you in with the “will she or won’t she” scenario. “Will she or won’t she” pick Peeta or Gale? “Will she or won’t she” survive a game that does not allow for love to shine through? Those questions get you through the first book, and possibly half way through the second book, but those same questions are a moot point with Mockingjay.Mockingjay stripped you of your hopeless romantic naiveté. There is no room for romance when the world is collapsing around you. There is barely room to breathe. There are no good guys or bad guys, only survivors. Collins does all this without a lecture, without loosing her characters or her plot, she has crafted an incredibly well written story that I would gladly recommend to anyone who asks.After I finished reading Mockingjay I had the same feeling as I had when I finished reading The Lord of the Flies so many years ago. Yes, I am comparing Mockingjay to a classic. There is no way around it. Mockingjay, like Lord of the Flies, asks you deep moralistic questions through the point of view of young characters. This is simply another great novel that makes you go hmmm.My favorite quotes from Mockingjay:“Frankly, our ancestors don’t seem much to brag about. I mean, look at the state they left us in, with the wars and the broken planet. Clearly, they didn’t care about what would happen to the people who came after them.”“It’s a saying from thousands of years ago, written in a language called Latin about a place called Rome,” he explains. “Panem et Circuses translates into ‘Bread and Circuses’. The writer was saying in return for full bellies and entertainment, his people had given up their political responsibilities and therefore their power.”“Something is significantly wrong with a creature that sacrifices its children’s lives to settle its differences.”

It’s hard to trust anyone knowing that person might soon become your killer. There’s are lessons in survival here. There’s also romance as Katniss isn’t sure if she loves Peeta, but she cares for him enough to fight for his survival as well as her own.

I've been doing Organizational Development work and have stacks of stacks of books on the topic of change, leadershipship, organizational improvement etc. etc. Amy's book takes her many years of wonderful experience and points us in a clear direction for moving forward into a more complex era of organizational and planatary change. Teaming is just the starting point. It's really about learning as we seek to execute strategies in increasingly complex environments and times.What a pleasure to come across a "management" and/or"Business/Organizational" book that is not boring and insipid as about 95% of what is written in these categories usually is. Most highly recommended.

In a complex and fast-moving economy, on-the-fly teaming is required to solve our toughest problems. We must gather experts, focus them, and develop solutions to remain competitive as an organization and as a country. Command-and-control leadership, which works in more predictable ways in manufacturing-based cultures, falls far short in a knowledge-based and adaptive culture. Teaming and collaboration that combine different talents, points of view, and perspectives capture value more readily in this more complex environment. The fundamentals of teaming—like taking risks, embracing failure, and crossing boundaries—feel unnatural to command-and-control cultures but are necessary if we are to compete successfully.

This book presents interesting concepts but would be a much better academic article than a book. Not enough substance and very repetitive. Wish I didn't buy it.

I wish this guidebook had been published when I visited Montevideo 16 years ago. Though I had a good time, I see now it could have been 10-times more fun. But I’m enjoying thinking about my next trip from my swivel chair at home because the book is so lively and personable, reading it is like making a new friend. I mean, this is the only guidebook you’ll find that uses rating categories of “Thumbs up!” “Mehhh” and “Mehhh antidote.” The author, Karen, defines what it means to be the hostess-with-the-mostess. The Live Music chapter includes lists of lesser-known artists who will “blow you away,” the popular and the off-the-beaten-track venues where they play, how to post a request for a reservation via FB, and exactly what to write in Spanish! She even tells you what albums to listen to before you arrive. Though a self-proclaimed “beer woman,” Karen still goes out of her way to appeal to wine-lovers like me, consulting real experts to list the best restaurants for wine lovers, 12 best budget wines, vineyard tours from “rustic” to “luxury”, and “great little wine stores.” The guidebook has advice about everything you would expect to see, from tips on getting to and from, weather and what to wear, where to stay, what to tip—it’s all in here, along with a good dose of humor and enticement to buy your tickets to Uruguay straight-away.

The Guru'Guay guide MADE my trip to Montevideo. I was there for 5 weeks so I had a lot of time to try many of the recommendations in the book. The explanation of how to use the bus route website was invaluable. So was the insight into proper amounts to tip. I'm from the U.S. and would recommend this book strongly. Thanks Guru'Guay for the great background on the area, the spot-on restaurant reviews and the great advice for side trips. :}~

Informational: Yes! Not what I would describe as a true guide. Author provides personal opinions based on her experiences and makes several recommendations (sounded more like sale-pitches to colleagues) without comparative points of reference. For someone who is ignorant of the culture it may be more useful than to experienced travelers. All in all she reveals things about the area that will be helpful to anyone who does not know what to expect and for that reason it will be valuable to many. For whatever is worth I bought two (one to gift), in hindsight I should have bought one and after glancing at it for a couple of hours, I would give it to someone planning on travelling there. I'll get my money's worth just to try a couple of the author's favorite places, but it will not be the rental car place she recommends - absurd pricing for car rental regardless of what they do before, or after the car rental.

When I was planning my November 2017 trip to Uruguay, I was really struggling to find any type of helpful travel information. Again and again, I kept finding the Guru'guay blog, which has fabulous articles and recommends. Through the blog, I found this book and also wound up staying at Karen's fabulous Casa Sarandi in Montevideo.This book was a treasure trove of great information and was invaluable - not only to better understand all of the wonderful things I could do, but also to get a better sense of the Uruguayan culture.This book is a gotta-have if you are heading there - and don't miss her Beaches and Wine Country book as well!

Uruguay is a good place to spend several days, especially if you are also planning a trip to Brazil or Argentina. And this Guru'Guay Guide is a must and really helps you plan your stay. We used Karen Higgs' recommendation for our hotel, the Alma Historica, and for a city guide and Carnival guide. It is an easy read, and you can also download a copy and use it on Kindle.Well worth the price

It's hard to find info on Montevideo and this has it all. She got us to and from places and helped exprience the everyday culture! Thanks to the author and her website we got tickets for the ferry between Montevideo and Argentina for half the price we were finding through Boquebus on their other brand Seacat. Same company and equip. Different brands.

While I haven't visited Uruguay, I plan to retire to Montevideo in a few years. I'm doing all the research I can, and Karen's book is a winner. I'm interested in neighborhoods, food, and cultural activities and I learned so much, without a lot of the tourism "come ons" that are on the travel sites. She has lived there many years and her love of the city (and country) is very apparent, and she knows her stuff. If you follow Guru'Guay on Facebook, you know that she has a passion for what she does, and that comes through in her book. Very highly recommended, and I can't wait to get there.

The progression of this book makes for an easy understandable read and guides you from start to finish.

Personally, I preferred the book by Lewis Hill on this suject as that book is a little more fun to read than this was at times. This book also sports many dated black and white pictures. The information is of course current, but you will know right away that this book was written and compiled during the 1960's vs. modern day. Don't let these minor criticisms stop you from getting this book though. As I said, a lot of good info. is available and it stands as a good reference for this subject.

It is definialy a must have for those with an interest in owning a Christmas tree farm. The author wrote the book in a very easy and whimsical way to make the book very enjoyable to read.

I bought this as a gift for my girlfriend (we both love treehouses), and we spent quite a bit of time looking through it and getting lost in the gorgeous photos. The book's binding and paper quality is high. The text also looks very informative, though I haven't really had the chance to read it yet.

I purchased this for my dad, who loves woodworking, this book is absolutely beautiful and inspiring, great for any DIY-er to gather inspiration, any Tree house lover, or, just anyone who appreciates beautiful things. I highly recommend, makes a great Father's Day, Holiday or birthday gift!

I had been looking at treehouses on the net for quite a while before i bought this book so I was keen to see if there would be any surprises. There were. The examples shown are beautiful. I particularly value the (too) brief technical section, but wish there was more in this book. However, reading this book in conjunction with the less inspiring Home Tree Home is helpful. I do not regret buying this book but I would have liked more technical information in the texts about the houses. Because I am thirsty for technical info, i am annoyed by image captions describing pretty much what I can see for myself. But it is such a beautiful book and for anyone considering building a treehouse, I would strongly recommend it.

Beautiful Art in the Trees ! Not only is the photography in this book extraordinary, but his descriptions of the construction techniques are thorough and articulate. This is not JUST a "coffee table" book, but a great read. Pete Nelson is a true "artist". His love and knowledge of the trees comes through in every page. A person does not have to love treehouses to appreciate this wonderful book that demonstrates how we can live in harmony with nature. I hope his work continues for many years to come !!!!! Nice picture book, but no detail on how to do anything.

I got hooked on the tv series first and then saw this book. It is a great lesiure reading item. There is an appropriate amount of background reading to accompany the beautiful pictures. I get positive comments from our guests all the time.
